Splitgate 2 officially arrives later in 2025, but it essentially drops early through its Open Beta, giving everyone a taste of its maps, modes, and new map creator feature.

The original Splitgate was a hit when it arrived in early access in 2019, combining Halo’s gunplay with Portal’s… portals. Despite a strong launch, the player count dwindled, and it was sunset in 2022 so the devs could focus on developing a full-fledged sequel.

That sequel is nearly here, so if you want to jump in and try it yourself, here’s everything you need to know about Splitgate 2’s Open Beta, including the start date and content.

The Splitgate 2 beta goes live on Thursday, May 22, at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST.

The Open Beta doesn’t have an end date, it will only end once Splitgate officially launches. There’s no official release date, just a summer release window.

How to play Splitgate 2 Open Beta

Since it’s an open beta, you don’t need to preregister or sign up to play Splitgate 2 as once it’s live, it’ll be there in your platform’s store, ready to download and play.

Platforms

Splitgate 2 is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, which launches on June 6, the devs said in an X/Twitter post on March 3 that it won’t be on Nintendo’s handheld at launch, “but beyond that it’s possible!”

Is there crossplay?

Yes, Splitgate 2 is cross-platform, so you’ll be able to play with your friends no matter their platform. The first game had crossplay, and it featured in Splitgate 2’s Open Alpha in March.

Open Beta content

  • 25+ weapons
  • 10+ modes
  • 15+ original maps
  • Open Beta Battle Pass
  • The Lab map creator
  • Borealis Power Weapon

The Lab map creator arrives in the beta, letting players create their own maps inside the game. So, even though there are over 15 original maps developed by 1047 Games, there will be an unlimited number to play.

It’s inspired by Unreal Engine and Halo Forge, with Halo Reach being “a big reason our CEO and many of our level designers originally got into game development.”

The beta also introduces the Borealis Power Weapon, a railgun carbine hybrid with unlimited range. It’s a two-shot kill and deals collateral damage, so the devs said “the highlight potential is next level.”

For $5, you can also get the Beta Battle Pass. Splitgate 2’s Battle Passes are smaller and easier to complete than other games, and this first one will give a taste of how it’ll work from launch onwards.
