Interest in A Very Royal Scandal has been reignited after the arrest of former British prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and there’s a way to watch the TV show for free right now.
On Thursday, February 19, 2026, the king’s brother was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office over his links to late child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew had already been stripped of his “Prince” title and had moved out of his Windsor mansion, Royal Lodge.
After nearly 12 hours of questioning by police in Norfolk, Andrew was released under investigation. The BBC has learned that searches into the Royal Lodge are expected to continue through to Monday (February 23).
The news of his arrest arrives shortly after the US Department of Justice released more than three million documents from the Epstein files. Andrew was probed about his connection to Epstein in an infamous 2019 Newsnight special, which itself was dramatized for TV.

What is A Very Royal Scandal about?
A Very Royal Scandal dramatizes the events leading up to former prince Andrew’s explosive 2019 BBC Newsnight interview, in which he attempted to address his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
More specifically, it centers on the real-life interview between Andrew and journalist Emily Maitlis, exploring how the conversation was secured and why it ultimately proved so damaging to the ex Duke of York’s public standing.
Rather than retelling the wider Epstein case in detail, the drama zeroes in on the high-stakes media chess match, from palace aides attempting to manage the crisis to the BBC team preparing for one of the most scrutinized interviews in modern British television history.
The series stars Michael Sheen as Andrew, while Ruth Wilson plays Emily Maitlis. The supporting cast includes Joanna Scanlan, Alex Jennings, and Éanna Hardwicke, who portray members of the royal household and the BBC production team.
A Very Royal Scandal consists of three episodes. Since its release, the 2024 drama series has drawn renewed attention whenever developments related to Andrew’s legal situation resurface.
The same year, Netflix dropped its own dramatization of the Newsnight special titled Scoop. As opposed to the series, it’s a movie that focuses more on Sam McAlister’s efforts to secure the interview.
