According to a new report, Bruce Banner will return in Spider-Man 4 – and if it’s true, it raises a big question about what will happen to the Hulk in Avengers: Doomsday.
Cast your mind back to 2012’s The Avengers. “That’s my secret, Cap: I’m always angry,” Bruce said as he transformed into the Hulk and punched the Chitauri mothership in the face. It’s still one of the best moments in the MCU, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen – for lack of better words – Hulk smash.
He’s never been the same since Thanos laid him out in Infinity War. In Endgame, Bruce figured out how to live concurrently with his green alter ego, leading to ‘Smart Hulk.’
Next year, Mark Ruffalo is set to reprise his role in Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man film, and there’s a chance we could see Bruce finally lose control again.
Will the Hulk be in Avengers: Doomsday?
With Avengers: Doomsday delayed to December 18, 2026, could Ruffalo’s return as Bruce Banner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day pave the way for the Hulk’s appearance?
As per Nexus Point News, “Ruffalo is set to reprise his role as Bruce Banner” in next year’s Spider-Man movie, due for release on July 31, 2026.
“It is currently unknown what role Banner will play in the story or whether he’ll also be portraying his alternate green persona. NPN can confirm Bruce Banner’s appearance will be much larger than a cameo and Ruffalo will have a substantial role in the film,” the outlet wrote.
It raises a few questions. Firstly, Bruce and Peter Parker have never interacted in the MCU, so why is he in Spider-Man: Brand New Day? Is it possible that he could be one of Peter’s professors in college? Remember, everyone has forgotten that Peter is Spider-Man, so he could interact with the Avengers and they’d be none the wiser.
It’s been rumored that Mister Negative will be one of the film’s main villains, and one fan had an exciting theory. “Wait, what if Mister Negative upsets the balance within Banner and that’s how they bring back the savage Hulk?” they asked.
At the time of writing, Ruffalo hasn’t been confirmed to star in Avengers: Doomsday. However, according to The Cosmic Circus, Ruffalo will appear in both Doomsday and Secret Wars – it’s just unclear if he’ll be in his Banner form, Smart Hulk, or the raging Hulk everyone’s desperate to see again.
