Hytale fans are increasingly concerned, as it appears that usernames are being taken from existing players and given to content creators.
Like most online games, Hytale requires you to create a username before you play that will be assigned to your account. These names need to be completely unique so that each player can be easily identified.
Those who pre-ordered the Founders version of the game had the opportunity to reserve their titles ahead of time, but everyone else was forced to battle it out to claim their names when they first logged in.
However, it appears that some players are having their usernames changed for them after they’ve claimed them.
Hytale players concerned as usernames get reassigned
Multiple creators have posted on social media claiming that their preferred names were taken, and that they were able to contact Hytale support and get them reassigned.
For example, YouTuber ‘The_Horizon‘ was able to secure the in-game title ‘Horizon’ after getting in touch with the team. Meanwhile, ‘MashClash’ managed to get the name ‘Mash, which had previously been chosen by another player.
But after the OP did a little more digging, they found that the original owners of these names had been given generic names to replace the ones they’d lost. The player formerly known as Mash was renamed ‘CoralShield434,’ while Horizon was changed to ‘Hxrizn.’
It’s worth noting that the devs have yet to address this issue officially, so it’s not clear exactly what the process behind these changes was, or how much the original users were consulted before the names were handed over.
But this has already caused plenty of concerns among the community, especially given that the names in question are fairly straightforward, so it’s unlikely that they’re intentionally trying to impersonate anybody.
“If my username got ripped away from me on something like this, I’d be p***ed,” said one fan on Reddit, while another added: “This is not a good policy.”
We’ll be sure to update this story as soon as the devs respond.
