One of the most iconic weapons in Warzone history is still meta in Season 1, going toe-to-toe and often outgunning the best guns from Black Ops 7.
The Season 1 update saw Warzone fully integrate with Black Ops 7, bringing every single multiplayer weapon over to battle royale. Unsurprisingly, these guns have quickly taken over the meta, with the likes of the DS20 Mirage and Peacekeeper MK1 showing up in most lobbies.
However, there are still a number of older weapons that have a place in the meta, including the classic CR-56 AMAX Assault Rifle. After dominating the BR at launch back in 2020, the AMAX returned in Black Ops 6 and once again became one of the go-to long-range options.
But while its popularity might have taken a dip after the wave of new weapons arrived, it’s still just as strong in this era of Warzone.
CR-56 AMAX is as strong as ever in Warzone Season 1
We used the CODMunity TTK tool to compare its time-to-kill to the game’s other meta options, and the results were surprising to say the least.
While it lags slightly behind over the first 40 meters, the AMAX is extremely competitive over longer distances. From 45 meters, it has a TTK of 759 ms, which places it ahead of the Peacekeeper and only 54ms slower than the AK-27, which is virtually unnoticeable in practice.
Then, it really shines from 70 meters and above, where it outguns every other meta Assault Rifle with the exception of the MXR-17, which edges it by just 13ms. However, it’s faster than the Mirage, AK-27, Peacekeeper, and M15 Mod 0.
The only real drawback is that the AMAX does come with more visual recoil than many of its rivals, which can make hitting shots consistently more of a challenge. That being said, its pattern is very predictable and it’s still ridiculously easy to use once you get to grips with it.
It’s well worth trying to get the hang of it, too, because once you do, it’s one of the fastest-killing long-range weapons that Warzone has to offer.
