According to a new report, Marvel Studios may be developing a Hercules project – and it’d be the perfect excuse to pit him against one of the franchise’s newest Avengers.

The MCU has a lot of loose threads that have been abandoned since their post-credit scenes; will we ever see Harry Styles’ Starfox, Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman, or any of the Kangs again?

Thor: Love and Thunder has one of the most notable unresolved stingers. At the end of the film, Zeus orders his son Hercules (Brett Goldstein) to find Thor and kill him. “Yes, father,” he says, seemingly setting up a Thor vs Hercules movie that’s never happened.

With Thor returning in Avengers: Doomsday, there’s a chance (albeit a very, very small one) that Hercules could also make an appearance. However, if he shows up further down the line, the MCU could adapt a specific fight from the comics.

Hercules should fight Sentry in the MCU

As per a new scoop from Daniel Richtman, Marvel is “developing a Hercules project.”

It’s unclear if this would be a follow-up to Thor: Love and Thunder, a TV show, a special presentation, or something else entirely. It also means that Disney is technically developing two Hercules projects, with the Russo brothers reportedly at odds with the studio over their live-action remake.

When Goldstein spoke to Variety in 2023, he claimed “he [had] no clue what’s happening” with Hercules at Marvel.

Whether or not Goldstein would reprise his role or Marvel would cast someone else as the God of Strength remains to be seen (and that’s if the project ever comes to fruition). However, if he does show up, the MCU shouldn’t waste an opportunity to pit him against one of the franchise’s strongest characters: Sentry.

In Marvel’s Incredible Hercules #128, he has a brief scrap with Sentry (who’s part of the Dark Avengers in this run) – and it shows just how powerful he really is, considering Sentry has the “power of a million exploding suns.”

When Sentry flies at him, Hercules grabs his cape and throws him away. He fends him off without much effort for the rest of the issue, even telling Sentry, “I thought you were supposed to be tough.”

Sentry asks, “Hercules, do you really want me to unleash the power of a million exploding suns?” Hercules responds: “I’ll do it,” and then he throws him away.

When Sentry gets to use his powers in Thunderbolts, he’s basically unstoppable. The MCU needs to find a way to humble him, just like Thanos laid out the Hulk – and Hercules could be the one to do it.
