GTA 6 could be missing its scheduled May 26, 2026 release date and be delayed yet again according to an insider.
Rockstar Games’ upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI is one of, if not the most, anticipated projects of all time with fans waiting years for the next installment in the series.
So far, the devs have only released two trailers and a handful of screenshots of GTA 6, confirming its return to Vice City, female and male protagonists, and some of the story.
Absent, however, has been gameplay. And as fans eagerly expect a third trailer to finally show off VI’s gameplay features, a new rumor suggests that the devs working on GTA 6 aren’t sure if they’ll hit the May release window.
Insider warns GTA 6 could be delayed to avoid being another Cyberpunk 2077
In November, Rockstar updated its website with GTA 6’s May 26 release date less prominent, sparking fears that the company may not be confident it could make that date and it could be delayed for a second time.
While the fears were exaggerated with some believing the release has been pulled completely from the site, YouTuber and insider Reece ‘Kiwi Talkz’ Reilly revealed that a delay is still possible.
According to the insider, he had spoken to several devs across Rockstar’s studios such as Bangalore, Edinburgh and San Diego who aren’t positive they can hit the planned release date.
“I can’t seem to get a consensus, it sounds like they are trying to hit it but it could be delayed again,” he said. “My guess is internally they are debating whether they can hit that date or not.”
As for why it could be delayed, it all comes down to not wanting the game to launch with a myriad off issues like what happened with Cyberpunk 2077.
“The game is pretty much content complete all of this will be QA, fixing bugs and glitches etc. There is an insane amount of things to test… You only get one first impression though, you don’t want a Cyberpunk situation.”
Cyberpunk 2077 notably launched as a brutal buggy mess before finally being fixed up post-launch with a series of substantial patches.
Reilly isn’t the only one who has suggested a delay is in the cards. Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson believes that the highly anticipated release might slide, too.
“To be honest, I don’t think that it is gonna release in May. For some reason, I just cannot see GTA 6 releasing in May,” Henderson said in September.
While Rockstar is still aiming to release GTA VI in a few months, fans are also eagerly expecting a new trailer, especially with parent company Take-Two Interactive’s earnings call set for November 6.
If a delay is happening, we may not have long until we find out.
