With just a few months to go before Invincible Season 4 debuts on Prime Video, a new set of images has revealed a first look at Thragg. But another still has caught fans’ attention, with claims it “foreshadows” a major comic book event related to Robot.

Rich character development, bone-crunching violence, and subversion of genre tropes are just a few of the reasons why Invincible is one of the best superhero shows on TV. Season 3 reinforced this fact with its biggest ever finale, showing Mark facing off against Conquest.

And that’s before we get to the post-credits scene, which sees the return of Damien Darkblood, the demon detective who Cecil sent back to Hell in Invincible Season 1.

Although this particular plot was a departure from Robert Kirkman’s comics, for the most part, the show follows the events of the source material. As such, the new look at Invincible Season 4 has led to speculation about Robot’s upcoming storyline. Warning: spoilers for the comics ahead!

Invincible fans think Season 4 image “foreshadows” Robot pivot

Even though Thragg is the ultimate big bad debuting in Invincible Season 4, one of the first-look images published by Forbes shows Mark and Co. in the foreground, while Robot is behind them facing the other direction – and some fans think this is “foreshadowing” his betrayal.

Robot’s character arc has been one of the most well-written of Invincible, gradually laying the groundwork for his desire for control and moral absolutism.

In the comics, this groundwork leads to Robot becoming a major antagonist who tries to reshape the world according to his own ideas of order and utopia, even killing other heroes in pursuit of what he believes is the greater good.

Since this part of the story is yet to unfold, fans think the visual of Robot turning his back on the gang is hinting at what’s to come. Taking to Reddit, one wrote, “Ok, the last one is peak. (It’s called foreshadowing).”

This sparked questions, with one asking, “Foreshadowing what? I read the comics so you can spoil it, I just don’t get it.” Another replied, “Look who’s behind them,” referring to Robot.

“Ahh thanks, I just couldn’t see him there,” added a third, with a fourth chiming in, “Robot be plotting to betray all of them.”

Others aren’t so convinced, including this person who commented, “I think this is too early for there to be any actual intended foreshadowing for that.”

But another countered, “There’s been foreshadowing the whole show. It’s easier for them to add because they already know how the story ends while making it this time.”

And a third pointed out, “Foreshadowing doesn’t mean he has to be doing it at that moment, just that he will in the future.”

With Thragg entering the picture as the show’s next major villain, it’s unlikely Robot’s full turn plays out in Invincible Season 4. Chances are the image is more a reminder that Robot’s story is still ticking in the background.

Speaking of which, fans are excited to see Thragg – who’s being voiced by Lee Pace – in TV form. “Yes Thragg we see the fit,” wrote one, while another said, “They even got his comic hairline right. 11/10.”
