VTubers have been left “heartbroken” after finding that Twitch staff trashed all of the gifts that fans brought for them to TwitchCon.

TwitchCon is Twitch’s annual celebration, allowing streamers and fans to interact in person in San Diego. However, this year’s event has been full of scary moments and drama, despite Twitch promising more security and armed law enforcement amid safety concerns from streamers.

Emiru was assaulted during her meet and greet as a man grabbed her by the face and tried to kiss her. Twitch claimed that the attacker was immediately detained, but the streamer disputed that

VTubers like Ironmouse, who typically don’t have much presence at in-real-life events, also held their own meet and greets. As ever, fans brought gifts for them to show their appreciation for the creators. However, a lot of those gifts were thrown in the trash by Twitch staff.

Ironmouse apologizes for binned TwitchCon gifts

The VTuber meet and greets, which were promoted as being ‘powered by Ironmouse’, ended with the VTubing star being ‘heartbroken’ because of the trashed gifts.

“I deeply apologize to all the VTubers and the fans who had meet and greets at the vtuber booth this year. It breaks my heart to know staff threw out all the gifts. I should have known better than to trust them and taken care of everything ahead of time. I am so sorry everyone,” she posted on X (formerly Twitter).

VTubers claim TwitchCon is “cooked” moving forward

Other VTubers, including Henya, chimed in on things. Henya put it down to a “miscommunication” between Twitch staff and the creators.

“Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication or misunderstanding, any gifts or presents given to my meet and greet staff were disposed of by the venue staff. I am very sorry for anyone who gave me a gift dayo,” they posted.

“I genuinely mean this, I think Twitchcon is actually cooked for future years,” Elara added.

“Twitch fundamentally has some serious issues that they need to address at a CORE level. The events that have transpired this past weekend are just unacceptable.”

Some fans stated that they had followed guidelines on gifts, including bringing clear plastic bags. However, they were apparently told by security that gifts were labelled as a “security risk” and “could have held an explosive.

These gifts, which have been shown to be as small as a set of stickers, have been lost to the trash.
