Dexter mastermind Clyde Phillips has exciting news for fans of sequel series Resurrection, including details of when Season 2 will shoot.

Dexter is the gift that keeps giving. The serial killer thriller aired on Showtime between 2006 and 2013, and concluded after eight (largely) acclaimed seasons.

But now the character is very much back, via prequel series Original Sin, and two sequel series in the shape of New Blood and Resurrection.

The latter has been a huge hit, becoming Showtime’s most streamed premiere ever, and achieving a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%. So it’s no surprise that more Dexter: Resurrection is on the cards.

Is Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 happening?

Dexter: Resurrection hasn’t been officially renewed for Season 2, but it’s looking likely, with showrunner Clyde Phillips saying they’re planning on starting production soon.

While speaking on the Dissecting Dexter podcast, Phillips said, “Michael [C. Hall]’s got a three year deal. I’ve got a three year deal. We’re gonna be making this.”

But when asked if the next two seasons will screen over the next two summers – like Season 1 – Phillips stated that wouldn’t be the case.

“We’re going to be shooting next summer,” explained the showrunner. “We’re going to be shooting next spring. The writing room opens October 6. We will write through the holidays into early spring and then we’ll start soft prep, meaning planning the stages and the sets and locations, and then begin the casting process, and take it from there.

“We’ll be shooting next summer, we won’t be airing next summer.”

With post-production and editing required after principal photography has concluded, don’t expect Dexter: Resurrection to air until the tail-end of 2026.

As for whether characters and actors from canceled prequel Original Sin could pop up via flashback, Phillips said maybe, telling the podcast, “I can’t say no to that – there always is [a chance]. Sometimes it’s in the writing room. Sometimes it occurs to me in editing. So I’m not saying no to anything.”
