Donald Trump briefly appears in Industry Season 4, but his unexpected golfing cameo comes with a catch…
Industry is back via the eagerly anticipated Season 4, which screens on HBO in the US, and the BBC in the UK.
The acclaimed drama plays out in London’s financial sector, with young and ambitious investment bankers crossing and double crossing each other as they blur the lines between work and play.
The new season has lost fan favorite Robert, while adding big name to the ensemble, including Charlie Heaton, Claire Forlani, Max Minghella, Kal Penn, and Kiernan Shipka. But a cameo from the US President during Episode 1 comes out of nowhere.
Does Donald Trump cameo in Industry Season 4?
Yes, the character of Donald Trump briefly appears in Season 4 of Industry, but he isn’t played by the US President – instead it’s a lookalike that can be glimpsed in the distance.
The scene plays out 35 minutes into proceedings, when Eric Tao (Ken Leung) first appears, smoking a cigar on a golf course. He and his playing partners are discussing allowances vs endowments, and the relative merits of deregulation and compound interest.
They’re also being held up by the group in front, and we hear someone nearby say – off camera – “How many spare balls do you think his detail carries?”
We then see said group ahead, and while they are in the distance, the man putting is wearing white shoes, black trousers, a light blue shirt, and a red baseball cap, making him look a lot like Donald Trump.
To confirm his identity – and in reference to his Presidential number – Eric asks “Has 47 ever allowed anyone to play through?” to which the response comes “Not in this lifetime.”
As Trump plays in the distance, more voices off camera make jokes at his expense, with one saying: “I heard when he ends up at the bunker he shouts ‘fake news,’ and the ball disappears,” and another adding: “I heard he loves playing with Tiger Woods because it makes him feel like a civil rights hero.”
Eric and his group then tire of waiting for him to hole, so end their round, and as a by-product the Trump cameo.
