Is Full House leaving HBO Max? How to watch sitcom after “heartbreaking” news

Full House has long been a comfort-watch favorite on HBO Max, which is why fans have been left feeling “upset” as they ask whether the sitcom has been removed from the streaming service

October 2025 has arrived, which means the spooky season is upon us. There’s plenty of fresh content coming to HBO Max to get you in the mood, including the premiere of It prequel series Welcome to Derry

Horror hits like The Substance and Bring Her Back will also enjoy their streaming release on the platform, alongside new true crime documentaries to dive into.

If you’re looking for a comforting watch in between all of the dread, you may be one of many people who loves returning to ‘90s sitcom Full House. But if HBO Max is your go to platform, we have some news.

Is Full House leaving HBO Max?

Yes, at midnight on October 1, 2025, all eight seasons of Full House were removed from HBO Max

While the sitcom, which made stars out of child cast members Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, is an ABC production, HBO Max acquired the streaming rights in October 2021 after they expired at Hulu.

But as they say, all good things must come to an end. Licensing deals for classic TV shows are often temporary, with rights bouncing between platforms every few years as services compete for nostalgic hits to pad out their libraries.

We’ve seen it before: Friends left Netflix in 2020 to become an HBO Max exclusive, sparking outrage online, while The Office similarly jumped to Peacock in the US in 2021.

But this doesn’t make it any less painful for fans, especially since new deals and expirations aren’t publicized in the same way new releases are.

Full House fans slam “heartbreaking” removal

Full House fans who went to tune into their favorite show after midnight were left feeling “upset” after being blindsided by its removal from HBO Max.

“Nooooo I can’t believe they’re getting rid of Full House, this is heartbreaking,” wrote one on Reddit, while another said, “Hopefully they’re moving to another streaming service I actually have.”

On a separate thread, one commented, “Full House is my comfort show. I’ve been watching it every night for two years. I just had it on and HBO Max shut off and now when you search for Full House, it is no longer on the app. I can’t find anything online about it being removed?”

Another wrote, “My daughter was watching and told me it just shut out and the screen showed it was claiming to be a ‘connection issue’. Now I see this and went to check and we don’t have it either now.”

A third pointed out other Warner Bros. shows that were removed today, including Step by Step, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, and Gotham.

And there are plenty of comments from fans who vow to continue building their physical media collection. It’s yet another example of the growing trend of viewers returning to DVDs and Blu-rays due to the revolving-door nature of streaming rights.

“Just came here to check after coming home from work to watch Full House. So upset,” said one. “This is literally going to cause me to start buying physical media again. So maybe it’s a good thing after all.”

Another wrote, “This is why you got to buy the DVDs cause they would do something stupid like take the series off streaming.”

How to watch Full House on streaming

If you love Full House but not enough to buy the DVD boxset, there’s another way to watch it in the US: on Hulu

Hulu initially secured streaming rights for the sitcom in 2017, but then they expired. However, Disney later bought a majority stake in Hulu before taking it over fully, and since ABC’s parent company is the House of Mouse, it makes sense that the show would be there.

Still, Disney has come under fire in recent weeks due to the now-lifted Jimmy Kimmel Live! suspension, leading to a reported 1.7 million paid streaming subscription cancellations

Even though Kimmel’s show has returned to air, many former subscribers may maintain their boycott. If this is you, then the best way to watch Full House is on DVD or by buying it digitally via on-demand platforms.
