Over the past day, you may have seen a trailer for some sort of Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special, seemingly from Disney – here’s what you need to know.
Next year (March 24, 2026) will mark 20 years since the premiere of Hannah Montana, marking the arrival of Miley Cyrus’ iconic pop alter ego on the Disney Channel.
She was a TV staple for five years, even starring in her own movie and performing for millions of fans in the Best of Both Worlds Tour (which made over $70 million at the time).
Two decades on, a lot has changed. Cyrus is a world-famous pop star and actress, and it’s been a long time since she’s donned the blonde wig – but could that be about to change?
Hannah Montana 20th anniversary trailer explained
Sorry, but the Hannah Montana 20th anniversary trailer is completely fake, so you can blame the Miley Nation X/Twitter page for getting your hopes up.
It is pretty convincing, even featuring the Disney logo in the corner – but if you look closely, you’ll see the page’s watermark in the middle of the video.
Also, in fairness, the trailer doesn’t say anything about a tour or a special coming to Disney Plus. It ends on the Hannah Montana logo with “20th anniversary” added on, and then “2026” without any details of what that means.
Naturally, fans have drawn assumptions, believing it could be a revival of the original sitcom or some sort of concert special or live performance broadcasting on Disney Plus next year. Technically, that could still happen, but it hasn’t been confirmed by Disney or Cyrus, so keep your eyes peeled for an official announcement (and maybe don’t take a fan page at face value next time).
Will there be a Hannah Montana 20th anniversary tour?
A Hannah Montana 20th anniversary tour seems incredibly unlikely, but Cyrus is planning to mark the occasion with something – we just don’t know what it’ll be.
Speaking to SiriusXM, Cyrus teased that she wants to “design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this that now sits here today.”
“Without Hannah, there really wouldn’t be me. I’ve now been integrated into everyone’s life as the character. So that’s exciting to get to celebrate that,” she said.
Just don’t get your hopes up for a tour. Speaking to British Vogue in 2023, Cyrus (who hasn’t been on tour since the 2014 Bangerz Tour) revealed that “singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really the thing that I love.”
“There’s no connection. There’s no safety. It’s also not natural. It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people, then you are alone.”
Also, in another conversation with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, she added: “I have Reinke’s edema. It’s difficult to perform with because it’s like running a marathon with ankle weights on.
“The touring, I’m really torn about it. I want to do it but it would have to be in a way that is sustainable for me. I don’t lip-sync. I sing live and these songs are big. I don’t little songs.”
In short, Cyrus is definitely planning a celebration of Hannah Montana. Maybe it’ll be a one-off live performance that’ll be packaged into a Disney Plus special – you could say, it’d be the Best of Both Worlds (sorry, I couldn’t resist – nobody’s perfect).
