Xavier Thorpe was a love interest in the first chapter of the Netflix series, but does he return in Wednesday Season 2? Now we know, let’s revisit what went down with the character’s actor, Percy Hynes White.
It’s been a nearly three-year wait, but Wednesday has finally returned to our screens. Jenna Ortega reprises her role as the pig-tailed princess of death, alongside a host of familiar faces (or hands) and some newcomers (including Lady Gaga, who’ll be showing up in Part 2).
For all its faults, Wednesday Season 2 gets rid of the questionable love triangle between the titular Nevermore sleuth, Tyler Galpin (or the Hyde, depending on what mood he’s in), and Xavier.
Instead, the focus shifts to new friendships, fresh rivalries, and a bigger mystery that stretches beyond Nevermore Academy’s walls. But Xavier has been sidelined, seemingly for a different reason. Warning: some may find this content distressing.
Is Xavier in Wednesday Season 2?
No, even though Xavier was set up as the potential main love interest for Wednesday Season 2, he doesn’t return to the show.
We learn this in Episode 1 of the new chapter, when Wednesday is told by the new Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi) that her very own mother, Mortitia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones), has been asked to chair the Gala Fundraising Committee at Nevermore.
Xavier’s father, Vincent Thorpe, chaired the last three years. “But after Xavier was falsely accused of murder, he pulled his son and his endowment from Nevermore,” says Dort.
In case that isn’t clear enough, Wednesday asks, “Xavier’s not coming back this year?” To which Dort replies, “He’s heading to Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland.” And that’s the last we hear about him for the rest of the show.
So, why was he so suddenly cut from the lineup, despite the Season 1 finale suggesting he’d be a big part of the story moving forward?
Percy Hynes White controversy explained
Although neither Netflix nor White has confirmed why he was dropped from the show, the news came after sexual misconduct allegations were made against the actor, which began in a now-deleted tweet shared in January 2023.
The X/Twitter user posted a thread, accusing White and his group of friends of being “being predators, since they were 15, and trying to manipulate girls into f**king them or giving them nudes” while living in Toronto.
“They were pushy, rude, abusive to girlfriends and girls and people in general, and then when he got a bit older he started throwing parties in his basement, planning with his friends to explicitly invite women they thought were hot so they could get them drunk and high enough to have sex with them,” she wrote.
She went on to claim that at the age of 17 at least, White would “pursue, have sex with, abuse, and get my friend high who was 13/14 at the time. Last time I knew they had sex she was 16 and he was 20.”
Other claims were made, including that he assaulted multiple women, he has rape allegations against him, and he would share nudes of other girls without consent.
Following these tweets, other women came forward with allegations, with one replying to the original posts, “Knowing what he’s done to me and other women is disgusting.”
Another wrote, “It hurts me to see this man in the public eye and admired by hundreds of thousands of young girls.”
When these allegations surfaced, netizens started sharing what they claimed to be Instagram posts White liked in the past, including racist and misogynist memes. A clip of White in character using a racial slur also circulated, as were images of him users alleged were sent to underage girls.
In June 2023, White broke his silence on the situation, writing on Instagram, “Earlier this year, somebody I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online. Because of this, my family has been doxxed, and my friends have received death threats.
“Underage photos of me were used, and examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful. My friend Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim, and her attempts to set the record straight have been ignored. She gave me permission to include her in this message.”
He continued, “The rumors are false. I can’t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people’s safety. These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims.
“It’s very distressing to know that this misinformation has upset people. I’m really thankful for everyone who’s stood by me and helped share the facts. Harassment of my family, friends and coworkers needs to stop please. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”
His friend Jane also spoke out against the accusations, claiming that to her knowledge, the original accuser “has never interacted with, or even been in the same room as Percy.”
Despite his denial, in June 2024, it was revealed that White had been dropped from Wednesday Season 2. Netflix never gave a reason for the removal.
