Rush Hour 4 is still in the works – but, in Jackie Chan’s words, they need to “hurry up” before the two stars get too old.
Chan first starred as Chief Inspector Lee in 1998’s Rush Hour alongside Chris Tucker as Detective James Carter. The smash-hit action movie pits the unlikely partners together to rescue a Chinese diplomat’s abducted daughter.
It spawned two sequels, with the franchise grossing just shy of $850 million worldwide. Alas, it’s been over 15 years since the third instalment, and updates regarding a fourth have been few and far between.
Chan confirmed Rush Hour 4 was in development in 2022, and now, he’s keen to get moving on the project.
Jackie Chan needs Rush Hour 4 to “hurry up”
In an interview with Screen Rant ahead of Karate Kid Legends, Chan was asked for an update on Rush Hour 4.
“I don’t know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour,” he said.
Chan insisted he wants to make a fourth movie, as well as another Shanghai Knights film with Owen Wilson. “The script is still going on. I want to do a Rush Hour 4,” he added.
It’s unclear who’d direct a fourth entry, especially after Brett Ratner (who helmed all three movies) was accused of rape and sexual harassment in 2017.
Nevertheless, Tucker seemed eager to reprise his role in 2018, telling ESPN’s The Plug podcast: “It’s happening. This is gonna be the rush of all rushes. Jackie is ready and we want to do this so that people don’t ever forget it.”
In 2019, there were reports of a female-led Rush Hour reboot in development, but this was either untrue or the project has already been axed.
