Writer-director James Gunn is apparently making a change to the structure of his Superman movie, based on test screening responses.
We’re just weeks away from the release of a new Superman movie, meaning hype – and speculation – is ramping up for this Man of Steel reboot.
James Gunn is overseeing this new iteration, and has been typically vocal about what’s to come, recently comparing his film to a Japanese blockbuster, telling Cinema Today: “My goal was to make a film like Godzilla Minus One, which depicted Godzilla but also had great human drama.
“There is a human story at the root. The relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor is the core of the work.” Gunn has also been tweaking the movie to change the structure, according to a report based off recent test screenings.
How the structure of Superman is changing
Following recent Superman test screenings, commentator Jeff Sneider said this regarding changes: “I believe there was a ‘days of the week’ thing, so it would start with like Monday… I’m told that’s gone. It was things like that. Little things. Not a huge thing.”
He then added: “It all lines up with the moviemaking process. The effects are rough. There’s too much humor. The running time is being trimmed. I think that the movie is going to be fine. I think it’s going to perform well. It might even win July. It might even triumph over Fantastic Four and Jurassic World.
Speaking of that battle between Marvel and DC next month, James Gunn recently took to social media and suggested fans focus their energies elsewhere.
“They come out two weeks after us,” Gunn wrote on Threads. “There’s room for us both! I love my friends at Marvel. You can find whatever discussions you’d want to find online. I’d focus on all the positivity around the films instead of getting sucked up in online fan wars.”
