James Gunn gives “classy” response to Trisha Paytas’ Aquaman baby

James Gunn has been focusing all of his attention on Superman following his DCU debut, but he was made to reflect on the past when confronted with the fact that Trisha Paytas has named her new baby son Aquaman.

While Paytas is best known for viral mukbangs and wild controversies, the YouTuber has spent the last few years focusing on motherhood and family, having had two daughters – Malibu Barbie and Elvis – with husband Moses Hacmon.

Given Paytas’ propensity for unique names, it should come as no surprise that her son, born on July 12, 2025, has a unique title: Aquaman Moses Paytas-Hacmon. Yes, rather than kids’ toys or iconic singers, he’s named after the King of Atlantis himself.

Although the superhero, previously played by Jason Momoa, is low on the list of James Gunn’s priorities right now, Aquaman has become part of the DC discourse again – in the most unexpected way possible.

James Gunn gives verdict on Trisha Paytas naming son Aquaman

Entertainment Weekly took the opportunity to ask Gunn what he thought of the name, and the DCU boss gave a rather diplomatic answer.

“I saw that, yes. I think that’s cool! I mean… I hope he does okay in school,” he said, before acknowledging that he had a hard enough time with his own surname.

“I had a hard time with the last name Gunn, like, ‘Tommy Gun, BB Gun, Ray Gun.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, we get it,’” he added.

The Superman filmmaker then asked, “Is the middle name Gary or something? Won’t he get made fun of at school? Do kids make fun of kids anymore?” If anything, it could give him an advantage – what kid is going to mess with Aquaman?

Gunn has been praised for his response, with one writing, “James just politely said, ‘Good luck, little dude.’”

“That was the most polite ‘yikes’ I’ve ever read,” said another, while a third added, “Gunn kept it classy with a side of shade.”

The name itself has sparked plenty of theories, with one writing on Paytas’ Instagram announcement, “I have a theory that these names are all fake for the sake of ragebaiting/privacy of her children.”

Others have been circulating the theory that her babies are reincarnated celebrities, with her son Aquaman being linked to Ozzy Osbourne (despite the fact that the Black Sabbath singer died on July 22, days after Paytas gave birth).

“Every time someone dies, Trisha Paytas gives birth. It’s not coincidental anymore,” said one spectator on X/Twitter. Her first child was born around the same time as Queen Elizabeth’s death, followed by her second, who arrived around a month after Pope Francis’ passing.

Of course, this is just a wild conspiracy theory and nothing more, but it’s not stopped people from reviving the joke. “Welcome back Ozzy Osbourne,” wrote one on her post, while another quipped, “Ozzy, that you?”
