As Peacemaker Season 2 draws to a close, showrunner James Gunn has revealed that he has plans for the title character’s mom in the future.
Peacemaker Season 2 has been a family affair. In Season 1, we learned that Christopher Smith’s brother Keith was dead, while towards the end of proceedings, he killed his racist father Auggie.
But everything changed in Season 2, when Smith discovered a portal to Earth X, on which his dad and bro were very much alive, prompting him to bid farewell to our world, and move to their’s.
That dream ends pretty quickly however, when Chris realises that on the Allies lost WWII on Earth X, meaning America is pretty much a Nazi state. But throughout said drama, one family member is missing…
James Gunn says he knows the location of Peacemaker’s mom
In the comics, little is known about Peacemaker’s mom Elizabeth Lewis Schmidt, beyond the fact that she was married to Austrian industrialist – and Nazi – Wolfgang Schmidt, and moved to America with Chris when he was a child.
The character is also conspicuous by her absence from the Peacemaker TV series, particularly as it so clearly focusses on the Smith family.
But while mom didn’t appear in Seasons 1 or 2, it sounds like James Gunn has plans for her in the future, as when asked about her whereabouts by a fan on ‘Peacemaker: The Official Podcast,’ the writer-director says:
“I know where she is, but I’m not going to give that away. She was almost in this season. And I even know who I want to cast.”
So while Season 3 hasn’t yet been green-lit, the sequel series will likely feature a battle between Chris and supervillain Keith, while the arrival of Elizabeth – if that remains her name – will doubtless throw an emotional spanner in the works.
