James Gunn has been discussing Eagly’s future in the DC Universe, doubting that he’d ever team up with Superman’s Krypto, but revealing the bird will get its own action sequence in Season 2 of Peacemaker.
With his Superman about to hit screens worldwide, writer-director James Gunn has been doing publicity rounds for the big-budget reboot.
He just appeared in a London record store to answer fan questions about the DCU, during which Gunn revealed how Star Wars and Game of Thrones influenced his approach.
Talk then turned to what’s next for Peacemaker‘s feathered friend, and whether he’d ever collaborate with the Man of Steel’s sidekick…
Eagly gets standalone action in Season 2 of Peacemaker
Peacemaker – aka Christopher Smith – loves his bald eagle buddy, who serves as the anti-hero’s friend, protector, dance partner, and shoulder to cry on.
Over the course of Season 1 of the series, Eagly fought police officers and members of the Aryan Empire, but always alongside his human companion. That’s about to change in August, when the show returns.
“He’s vicious,” Gunn says of the bird. “Wait until you see Peacemaker Season 2 – Eagly gets a whole action sequence all to himself. That’s a big spoiler for the crowd here.”
Why Eagly won’t team up with Krypto
A fan then asked if Eagly would ever team up with Superman’s super-powered canine buddy, to which Gunn said: “Honestly I think Krypto would eat Eagly.”
To prove that point, Gunn told a story about his own dog Ozu, on whom Krypto is modelled: “My wife is in Atlanta where our house is, and he attacked a deer yesterday! He’s not that big and he was biting the deer’s leg and the deer was squealing, and my wife had to go save the deer from my stupid dog. She said it was so cute. Not him attacking the deer, but the deer was cute, and she’s never run faster in her life. He’s a monster.”
Asked if the movie version of Ozu is toned down, Gunn said “Oh yes, there would be dead people everywhere. He’d be flinging people like zombies in I Am Legend… a Krypto zombie movie might have more potential than a Krypto Eagly team-up.”
