The Jimmy Olsen TV series is officially titled DC Crime, and it could give fans an eye-opening look at the future of Batman in the DCU.

Rumors about the possibility of a Jimmy Olsen show swirled after fans and critics were impressed by Skyler Gisondo’s performance in the DCU’s Superman movie. He’s shown as less of a comedic sidekick and more a fully-fledged journalist alongside the likes of Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Clark Kent (David Corenswet).

Variety reported that DC Crime will be a mockumentary series styled after true crime documentaries, (think American Nightmare or Deadly American Marriage) with Gisondo’s Olsen hosting. It will reportedly look at Gorilla Grodd, a super-smart psychic primate typically associated with The Flash.

But DC Crime’s documentary style could answer questions fans have about other heroes in the DCU, including Batman.

DC Crime could reveal what kind of Batman appears in James Gunn’s DCU

It’s possible DC Crime will tease what to expect from the new Batman, because it’s documentary set within the DCU hosted by Olsen, a journalist. Now, we’re not expecting the Caped Crusader to actually cameo in the series, but it’s highly likely that Olsen will discuss details about the universe throughout the show given his motormouth nature.

There’s a huge Bat-question about whether the DCU’s Dark Knight will be super serious or more fantastical, like in the comics, and DC Crime could be the perfect opportunity to prepare fans.

If Olsen jokes about something as simple as the colors of his costume, fans will have an indication of the type of Batman James Gunn is aiming for. For example, if Olsen makes gags about the vigilante wearing gray and blue, there’s a high chance the new Batman will fight monsters and deals with the supernatural, as well as gritty street-level villains and murderers.

The same can be said for any mention of any over-the-top gadgets Batman uses, or what kind of Batmobile he has. Of course, this is speculation, but it’s very easy to imagine Gisondo’s journalist waxing lyrical about other superheroes, especially since the Superman movie featured Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Metamorpho alongside the Man of Steel.

DC Crime will likely set up an appearance from The Flash

Yes, we know, Gorilla Grodd is one of The Flash’s villains, so we’re more likely to get confirmation about the Scarlet Speedster’s place in the DCU since he’s fought the massive primate on numerous occasions in the comics.

For now, it’s unclear who will play The Flash following the disappointing 2023 movie starring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, but Gunn’s new universe is a chance for a reset. It depends on whether The Flash is already active in the DCU, but if he is, then it seems likely that Olsen will address any fights he’s had with Gorilla Grodd and whether he’s apprehended him.

Much like Batman, this would set up some expectations for the new version of the speedster. We could even see a full cameo, especially if there’s footage of Gorilla Grodd and The Flash fighting in the streets of Central City. After all, true crime documentaries love to use dramatic CCTV videos.

It could even explain which version of The Flash is currently holding the mantle in the DCU, although whether we’ll get Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West, or even Bart Allen, remains to be seen.
