Lionsgate looks ready to make a serious move into AAA games, and two of its biggest franchises are leading the charge.

Movie studios have been leaning harder into games over the past few years, and the results have been hard to ignore. Hogwarts Legacy showed that a big-budget game tied to a major film universe can become a massive commercial hit.

Marvel has several high-profile projects on the way, while Warner Bros has spent years building games around classic franchises like DC and Middle-earth. The approach has become increasingly common, with studios looking to extend the life of their IP through large-scale interactive releases. Now, Lionsgate appears to be taking a similar approach with two huge franchises leading the way.

Lionsgate teases AAA John Wick and Saw games

During its latest earnings call, the studio confirmed it is exploring AAA games based on its most recognizable franchises, Saw and John Wick.

According to the call, Adam Fogelson, Chairman of Motion Picture Group at Lionsgate, outlined the company’s plans around gaming: “Our AAA game opportunities and other gaming opportunities around John Wick and Saw and some others that we’ll be announcing soon, we’re seeing increased interest and increased opportunity, and we remain on schedule.”

The comments suggest multiple projects are already in development, with John Wick and Saw positioned as early priorities, both of which are huge franchises for Lionsgate. On top of that, the “we remain on schedule” and “we’ll be announcing soon” suggest fans will be hearing a little more about the upcoming games very soon.
