HBO is developing a Game of Thrones sequel that will focus on the further adventures of Jon Snow.

It’s a big week in the Game of Thrones universe, with new series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms debuting to largely positive reviews.

We wrote: “Once the show finds its footing, it becomes clear what the series is aiming for, and the payoff is worth it. It’s not flawless, but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms serves up an entertaining tale about decency, loyalty, and what it truly means to be a knight.”

Seven Kingdoms plays out before the events of GoT, but a series that’s currently in development will serve as a direct sequel.

Jon Snow series set to feature Arya Stark

According to a new report on The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is in “very early development” on a new series about Jon Snow that will focus on the character’s life in the Mediterranean-like land of Essos, and feature Snow’s beloved cousin Arya Stark.

Writer Quoc Dang Tran is working on the idea, while an HBO source told THR, “We are very interested and excited by the prospect of a sequel but also keenly aware of how high the bar of execution needs to be.”

Jon Snow actor Kit Harrington had previously pitched the network a series about his character struggling with PTSD after the events of the final season, but in 2024, he told EW that the idea had been spiked.

“I think we don’t want to do something that’s not worth it. So for the time being, we’re just shelving it,” Harrington explained. “I would never have said yes to the idea of developing something with Jon Snow if I didn’t think there was something interesting there, and there could have been.

“But HBO cares about the character a lot and I care about the character a lot, and we don’t want to put out something that is going to sully the character. That’s the worst thing that we could possibly do.”

While in a recent Variety interview the actor said he was done with the character, stating: “I don’t wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that. Thanks, I’m alright.”

So if the new series does get off the ground, it remains to be seen if Harrington will reprise the role, or HBO will be looking for a new Jon Snow.
