Kim Kardashian has confirmed she didn’t pass the bar exam this time around, sharing a determined message to fans about continuing her legal journey.
The 45-year-old SKIMS founder posted an update on Instagram, writing, “Well…I’m not a lawyer yet, I just play a very well-dressed one on TV.” She went on to thank supporters and promised not to give up, saying she’s still “all in until I pass the bar.”
In most U.S. states, including California, where Kim Kardashian is taking the exam, there’s no official limit on how many times you can fail and retake the bar exam. Some states, such as South Dakota and Virginia, have imposed limits of three to five attempts.
Failing the bar exam won’t stop Kim K
“Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination,” she wrote. “Falling short isn’t failure — it’s fuel. I was so close to passing the exam and that only motivates me even more.”
The post comes just weeks after Kardashian appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where she said she expected her bar results within two weeks and hoped to become a certified attorney soon. In a separate viral moment, she joked in a lie detector interview that using ChatGPT for legal advice had “made [her] fail tests,” calling the AI chatbot her “toxic friend.”
Kardashian began her law apprenticeship in 2018 through California’s Law Office Study Program and passed the state’s “baby bar” in 2021. Despite setbacks, she’s remained committed to earning her full qualification, previously saying she hopes to one day “give up being Kim K” to become a trial lawyer.
