There’s always a new video game adaptation on the horizon, but the team behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 have done something different by turning their game into a “special 2-hour cutscene movie.”
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which was released in February 2025, is the hit sequel to Warhorse Studio’s massive medieval RPG. It received widespread praise for its story, characters, and meticulous attention to detail, getting the full 5/5 from Dexerto in our review.
The usual next step for a successful game is for Hollywood to pick it up; The Last of Us, Minecraft, Mortal Kombat, Until Dawn, and Fallout are all getting (or have had) adaptations this year.
But, instead, Warhorse Studios have taken what they’ve already got and created a “cinematic cut,” turning the cutscenes from the game into a movie.
How to watch Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 movie
The movie will premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, screening on July 9, 2025, at 7 PM. So, you’ll have to visit the Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary in July to check it out.
The story is set in 1403 Bohemia (the Czech Republic), where a bloody civil war between Sigismund of Hungary and Wenceslas’ supporters rages on. You play as Henry (Tom McKay), a blacksmith’s son thrown into the conflict after his parents were murdered by Sigismund’s forces.
“I have wished to see Kingdom Come: Deliverance II on the big screen for a long time,” said Warhorse CEO Martin Frývadlský. “I believe that the civil story of a blacksmith’s son will also appeal to film audiences and stand up to the competition of international movie productions.”
Directed by developers Daniel Vávra and Petr Pekař, the game’s 2.2 million-word script, which was performance-captured by the actors, has been cut down to key cutscenes. Warhorse Studios’ Communication Director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling confirmed, “We’ve prepared a special 2-hour cutscene movie of the Trosky Region!”
The Trosky region is where the first half of the game is set, taking place in the countryside surrounding the now-ruined Trosky castle. Whether we see a part two covering the second half of the game remains to be seen.
