Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is expanding beyond video games, and the move starts with a major leadership shift at Warhorse Studios.

The co-founder of the company and creative lead on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Daniel Vávra, has reportedly stepped down as creative director, with his focus now shifting to bringing the franchise to live-action. Instead of shaping the future of the RPG directly, he is now working on transforming it into a film.

According to CzechCrunch, Vávra has stepped away from his creative director role to work on adapting the franchise for the screen, working on the script, and dedicating his time to ensuring the show has “a strong story” and is faithful to the franchise many know and love.

Warhorse Studios CEO reveals “draft script” for KCD2 show or movie

Speaking to CzechCrunch (and translated by Google), the studio’s boss, Martin Frývaldský, explained that “Dan has a new role. That’s the creation of the Kingdom Come movie.”

“We have been moving the Kingdom Come brand away from video games for some time now,” continued Frývaldský, going on to add, “So far we have been in comics, concerts, and tourism, but the film has attracted us the most. That is why Dan and I are working on getting it onto the screen or the big screen. There is also a draft script.”

As explained, Vávra is reportedly writing the script himself, reinforcing his direct involvement in shaping how the story transitions to live action, suggesting the adaptation will aim to preserve the identity of the franchise.

Despite stepping down from his previous role, Vávra has not left Warhorse Studios entirely. His responsibilities have shifted instead, with his focus now centered on delivering the franchise’s next major milestone.

“Getting Kingdom Come to the screen or the screen in the next few years is another milestone that we want to achieve, and that is Dan’s new role. You won’t see him in the office every day anymore, but in a broader sense, he is still part of Warhorse,” Frývaldský confirmed.

For now, with a draft script already in progress and the original creative lead directly involved after confirming his move, the project is clearly pushing forward.
