A Los Angeles Lakers fan is suing LeBron James for alleged “deception” over his new ‘The Second Decision’ advert, as they believed ‘King James’ would be retiring.
LeBron James is entering his 23rd season in the NBA, meaning fans have had plenty of chances to catch him in action. However, that also means we’re drawing closer to the end of King James’ reign.
While LeBron has not yet stated that he will retire or is even considering it, some fans have been anticipating it. That was sent into a fever pitch when he teased ‘The Second Decision’ for October 8. This was, of course, a reference to his original ‘The Decision’ event, where he left Cleveland for Miami.
In the end, that ended up being a teaser for a commercial with Hennessy, but Lakers fan Alex Garcia had already pre-empted the rumored retirement announcement by splashing out tickets for what would be James’ final appearance against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
LeBron’s ‘Second Decision’ ad prompts fan lawsuit
Well, according to TMZ, the diehard Lakers fan now wants LeBron to reimburse him for spending almost $1000 on tickets, given that he isn’t retiring.
As per TMZ, Garcia has filed a lawsuit in LA’s small claims court against James for “fraud, deception, misrepresentation, and any and all basis of legal recovery.” The 29-year-old wants his $865.66 back that he had spent on two tickets.
“I wouldn’t have purchased it if he wasn’t going to retire. Plain and simple,” Garcia told TMZ.
Ticket prices have skyrocketed for games where he’s projected to hit massive milestones along the way. That was evident when the Los Angeles Lakers star also became the record point-scorer in NBA history back in February 2023.
As per ESPN, ‘The Second Decision’ commercial also prompted price spikes for the coming season. Tickets for the Lakers’ final home game of the season against the Utah Jazz shot up from $82 to a minimum of $580.
It is unclear if other fans snapped up the tickets like Garcia, but he is the only one, as of now, suing James.
