The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has officially rolled out a fleet of Tesla Cybertrucks, becoming the first police department in the United States to deploy the futuristic EVs for active patrol duty.
LVMPD unveiled the stainless-steel vehicles on October 28 in a public debut, with Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirming that 10 Cybertrucks were donated to the department to kickstart what he called “the most technologically advanced police department in the country.”
According to the sheriff, each truck has been customized by Upfit Tesla and Unplugged Performance to meet police standards, including reinforced bumpers, roof-mounted light bars, and integrated camera systems.

The trucks quickly went viral on social media after LVMPD posted a clip calling them “the nation’s first fully operational Cybertruck patrol fleet — safer, smarter, and zero emissions.”
LVMPD says the vehicles will be used across area commands and tactical units, with one assigned to SWAT operations. Over 400 officers have been trained to operate the trucks, which the department says will reduce long-term fuel and maintenance costs thanks to their all-electric design.
The rollout marks the first time Tesla’s long-delayed pickup has been formally integrated into a U.S. law enforcement fleet, setting a precedent for other departments exploring electric patrol vehicles in the years ahead.
