Our favorite blue furry alien has been spotted at cinema screenings across the US, but a different kind of Lilo and Stitch has gone viral on TikTok for all the wrong reasons.
Whether he’s bursting out of popcorn buckets, scanning tickets, or causing chaos by driving a toy 4×4 into screenings themselves, Stitch has been absolutely everywhere over the past week. The new movie is already smashing box office records after its impressive memorial weekend debut, outgrossing the original 2002 film in a matter of days.
While the live-action adaptation isn’t exactly perfect (there’s no Captain Gantu for one), the pair’s charm is undeniable. Who wouldn’t want a chance to meet them in the flesh?
For some unsuspecting fans, the rare chance to say hi to their favorites in the flesh looked completely different to how they imagined, with the ‘meet and greet’ soon going viral online.
Lilo and Stitch ‘from TEMU’ meetup goes viral on TikTok
TikTok creator Adriana Torres and her partner dressed up as Lilo and Stitch to host an impromptu meet and greet, with the results getting millions of views on the platform.
In the clip, two young girls approach the pair with caution, with “Stitch” throwing up a peace sign as the group has their photo taken.
It’s unclear exactly where the meetup took place – or even if it was close to local screenings of the new movie – but a previous video shows the pair getting ready to meet fans backstage.
“It’s impossible that Disney authorized this,” one fan replied, with a second adding, “Didn’t even paint his hands.”
“Not the little girl backing up at first… I’m crying yo,” a third wrote, with a fourth replying, “We have Lilo and Stitch at home.”
It goes without saying that the only official meet and greets you’ll find for the pair will be at Disney World and Disney Land parks. There are multiple places in the park where you can regularly find Stitch, with the most frequent being in Magic Kingdom Park at the Rocket Tower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland.
Torres and her partner have been known for dressing up as other character duos in the past, such as Chucky and Tiffany for Halloween. Neither has made a public comment on the now-viral Lilo and Stitch meetup since it was posted on May 25.
