A new dating sim game allows players to play as a hamster who lives with three lively sisters, and it’s just as bizarre as it is comical.

Sweet Hamster Days follows the story of a man who died in a traffic accident, but instead of being hit with the IRL game over screen, you wake up as a hamster named Hamta. Still with me? Great, as things are about to get a little more outlandish.

Instead of being whisked away to the nearest pet rescue centre or by a falcon, Hamta is discovered by three sisters who shower him with love. According to the game’s description, the pint-sized rodent will be “spoiled rotten by its three gorgeous owners: cuddles, treats, naps, and all.”

Unlike typical anime-style visual novels, the entire game is shot in live-action. Players experience the world from Hamta’s point of view, watching scenes unfold from a tiny, low-angle perspective inside the family’s home.

You’re no ordinary pet either, as Hamta must uncover each of the sisters’ secrets and hidden worries, and if you become the perfect pet, the devs note that “you just might get rewarded with a special treat.” Quite what this “treat” is remains to be seen, but it’s sure to get Hamata’s hamster wheel spinning.

The game will also have “cute 4K live-action bonus scenes,” where I presume each of the sisters will gush about how much they adore their new furry friend. The devs note that Sweet Hamster Days will “let you experience something you could never experience in real life,” and to be honest, I have no reason to doubt them.

As Bill Gates once famously said, “We’re changing the world with technology,” and Sweet Hamster Days could be the most innovative dating sim game to release this year, well, alongside Date Everything!, which allows players to get friendly with their fridge.

Those eager to delve into the tiny feet of Hamata will have to wait until Q4 2025, when Sweet Hamster Days will release on Steam.
