The Warzone Season 6 update brings a major nerf to a crucial piece of Equipment, and mouse and keyboard players think it’s going to make their fights against controller users even harder.

Every Call of Duty update comes with a bunch of buffs and nerfs, which usually shake up the meta in a number of ways. In the final Warzone season before Black Ops 7, the devs opted to make matches more competitive by buffing a number of weaker guns, without nerfing any of the strongest options.

However, there are changes elsewhere that have the community talking, including a surprise nerf to Smoke Grenades.

Smoke Grenades hit with big nerf in Warzone Season 6

Going forward, players will only be able to carry one Smoke Grenade at a time, down from the two you could bring along in previous seasons. This may seem like a small tweak, but it’s set to have a huge impact on fights.

There are many squads who like to camp on rooftops and pick off enemies who dare to cross Verdansk’s more open areas. Smokes have often been the main counter to this, offering some extra cover and making it easier for teams to rotate.

Mouse and keyboard players are also frustrated by the change, as deploying smokes is seen as a great way to counter the aim assist afforded to controller users. Following the release of the patch notes, many MNK players called out the nerf.

“They actually hate MNK players. This is F***ING WILD,” said one user X, replying to a post from streamer ModernWarzone.

“Nerf the only thing that slightly nerfs aim assist if it works… CoD is f***in jokes lmao we on BF6,” said a second, while another added: “Wtf are they smoking… nobody asked for this s**t.”

The debate about aim assist has been raging on in Call of Duty for many years, with PC players often feeling that controller players have the advantage. However, Treyarch’s Matt Scronce told CharlieIntel that the win-loss ratio in Black Ops 6 is actually split pretty evenly between the two.

He didn’t mention whether the same was true in Warzone, but it’s unlikely that this debate is going away anytime soon.
