A man by the name of Gardner broke his Switch 2 after deciding to spray paint his copy of Donkey Kong Bananza the same color as retro Donkey Kong games.
Back when nearly every game console was powered by cartridges, developers could play around with how they looked.
For games like Donkey Kong 64 for the Nintendo 64 and DK Land for the Game Boy, Nintendo opted to use yellow carts to make them stand out from the rest.
Wanting to make his new copy of Bananza look like previous releases in the franchise, the TikToker disassembled the Switch 2 cartridge to spray paint it yellow.
Man gets DK Bananza stuck in Switch 2 after spray painting it
“If you look at Donkey Kong Lands or Donkey Kong 64, you’ll see they both have these vibrant yellow cartridges,” he said. “And I just am unable to play Bananza knowing that I’m putting a red cartridge in my Switch.”
So, after tearing down the Switch 2 cart to separate the case from the actual game, he taped off the label so it wouldn’t be covered in paint. Once he put it into the console, however, things went awry.
“Uh oh, it’s stuck,” he said. “It won’t actually go in. Update: it doesn’t fit in the console anymore. So I guess I’m not playing it today.”
Soon after the video was posted, Gardner shared in a comment that the game was, in fact, stuck inside of his Switch 2.
In a follow-up video, Gardner made attempts to get the game back out of his newly released console – but managed to make the situation even worse.
“It is absolutely stuck inside of my Switch,” he said before he pulled out pliers to try to get it out. “I also just actually broke the cartridge, oh god.”
