Legendary Super Smash Bros. player Joseph ‘Mang0’ Marquez has responded after being released from Cloud9, following his removal from Ludwig’s events over drunken harassment at Super Beerio Kart.
The fallout stems from Mang0’s behavior during Ludwig’s Super Beerio Kart event, where he was seen harassing multiple streamers while visibly intoxicated.
After being eliminated early, he made thrusting motions near Maya’s head, got in the personal space of other creators including Cinna, ExtraEmily, and Ludwig, and humped a cardboard cutout of himself on stream. Several attendees appeared visibly uncomfortable.
Mang0 responds to Cloud9 statement
“C9 dropping me. Probably getting banned from tourneys. F**king sh*t man,” Mang0 wrote in a post after the news broke. “No one to blame but myself but man, never thought I could hit this low… I had it all and f**king tossed it in the trashcan.”
Cloud9 confirmed the decision in a public statement, saying: “Following an internal evaluation, we have made the decision to release mang0 from Cloud9. Regardless of tenure or accomplishments, the behavior demonstrated is entirely unacceptable and directly conflicts with our organization’s core values.”
The org added that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward harassment and any form of inappropriate conduct, and emphasized its commitment to fostering a respectful and safe environment.
Ludwig also banned Mang0 from all future events, stating that no guest should jeopardize the comfort and safety of others.
Mang0 later admitted that alcohol has been at the root of many of his past issues, and said he would stop drinking immediately. “Think like 99 percent of my problems always stem from drinking,” he said. “I know it just looks like I’m trying to save face but I genuinely feel so awful about it… I will try and redeem myself over time.”
The former Melee champion had been with Cloud9 since 2014 and was one of the org’s longest-tenured players. With his removal now confirmed and tournament organizers facing pressure to take further action, Mang0’s future in competitive Smash is unclear.
“Probably won’t hear from me for a while,” he said. “I’m sorry everyone. Wish I was better.”
