Gen V Season 2 is gearing up for its final episode, and Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) risks becoming the new Homelander (Antony Starr) for one very specific reason. Warning: spoilers ahead!
The Boys spinoff series has explored the history of Vought International and its desperation to create more powerful supes through the mysterious project Odessa, which gave birth to both Homelander and Moreau.
Gen V Season 2 Episode 7 even delivered a well-executed twist in revealing that a main villain has been hiding in plain sight the whole time by using dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater) as a puppet.
But while Marie is obviously the main hero in Gen V, she risks becoming the new Homelander in the final episode of the season.
Marie Moreau is becoming dangerously hypocritical with her powers in Gen V Season 2
Marie is starting to become hypocritical about her friends using their powers on the group, when she does exactly the same thing – and that’s not a good sign.
In Episode 7, she makes it very clear to Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips) that she doesn’t trust her because she used her mind control powers against the team in the past when she betrayed them to Vought. But later on in the episode, Marie does almost exactly the same thing.
When Jordan (Derek Luh/London Thor) tries to stop Marie from looking for Vought scientist Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater), she takes control of the entire group using her bloodbending abilities. She painfully levitates her friends before dropping them to the floor so that they can’t get in her way.
Much of Gen V Season 2 has seen dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater) push Marie’s powers and she’s now able to take control of the blood inside a person’s body and move them however she likes.
She can also heal people, curing Polarity’s (Patrick Thomas) seizures, and she seemingly brought Annabeth (Keeya King) back from the dead after her throat was slashed.
But as her powers grow, clearly her attitude about who is allowed to use their powers and when is shifting, and that’s very dangerous. The only other supe that came from Project Odessa is Homelander, and he’s become a tyrannical maniac, which sets a very dangerous precedent for Marie.
It’s clear the Gen V writers are showing how Marie and Homelander are two sides of the same coin, so hopefully she won’t become a full blown supervillain. But her controlling attitude towards her friends’ powers is a little concerning, even if Dunlap did betray her first.
It’s a mentality that’s not a million miles away from Godolkin’s dangerous desire to cull the student population of those with less-than-desirable powers in the season finale.
