A Super Mario 64 speedrunner who set five world records in the classic platformer has set a whopping $8,000 bounty on his head to entice players to try and take his crown.

Since 2024, all five of Super Mario 64’s records have been held by a single person, the speedrunner known as Suigi.

In the past, players would carve out their own niche by competing for the fastest time in 120 Star, 70 Star, 16 Star, 1 Star, and 0 Star runs. However, Suigi managed to claim the world record in all five categories and has remained unbeaten for over a year.

Speedrunner offers $8,000 bounty to break his own world records

As spotted by GamesRadar+, uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he called on his fellow runners to try and put an end to his own dominance.

“The community is bored and needs a shakeup. We need an exciting record again to finally break the five-for-five curse,” he explained. “I also think it’s gotten really, really old just like everyone else.”

So, to try and give his rivals a little “push” to overtake him, Suigi announced that he will give anyone who breaks any of the five records $1,000. He also offered the community the chance to donate and increase the prize pool, which sits at $7,944 as of the latest update.

The only rules are that the times must be set on an original Nintendo 64 console and be verified by the official leaderboards.

“These records aren’t that good. They aren’t unbeatable,” he added, encouraging his fellow speedrunners. “There’s just some mental barrier that needs to be punched through and broken.”

Amazingly, since this video was posted, Suigi has actually already broken his own record in the 70 Star category, after he shaved two more seconds off his own time. But don’t worry, he’s not claiming the money for himself, so the bounty is still there to be claimed.

In most categories, the times to beat are only a couple of seconds ahead of the runners-up, but in speedrunning terms, this is a pretty substantial lead. However, as the holder said, they’re not impossible, so we’ll have to wait and see who scoops the prize.
