Chris Hemsworth has shared a statement thanking Marvel fans for supporting Thor over the years, and people are worried – what if he dies in Avengers: Doomsday?
Hemsworth is one of the OG Avengers, first debuting as the God of Thunder in 2011 before joining forces with Earth’s mightiest heroes a year later.
He’ll return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday alongside 26 confirmed stars – including the original X-Men – to face off against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
Earlier this year, Anthony Mackie teased that “everyone is expendable” in the upcoming movie, and after Hemsworth’s latest post, it looks like Thor’s death is on the cards.
Did Chris Hemsworth just say goodbye to Thor before Avengers: Doomsday?
Hemsworth shared an old featurette from Thor: Love and Thunder on his YouTube channel, which doesn’t seem particularly alarming – until you read the caption.
Underneath the video (titled ‘Thank You! The Legacy of Thor’), the actor wrote: “Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
“For the last 15 years I’ve held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me.
“Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable… next up, Doomsday!”
Doomsday is currently in production. Could it be that Hemsworth is simply feeling emotional about Thor’s journey in the MCU and how the role has made him one of the most recognizable stars in the world? Perhaps – but fans think it’s a big tease for his death.
“So basically, he is confirming that he will die in the Avengers: Doomsday within the first 10 to 15 minutes, similar to Loki’s death in Avengers: Infinity War. Go well legend,” one user speculated.
“Bro’s going to die in early half of the film lmao,” another wrote. “The weight of Doom as a character will likely be conveyed with him killing Thor, it’s probably the only way for audiences that have absolutely no clue who he is to introduce him to the MCU with almost no lead-up story,” a third predicted.
There have been rumors about Thor dying in Doomsday. More specifically, The Cosmic Circus alleged that Thor will reunite with Loki, but he’ll get a “proper send-off in an epic way, with sources pointing to New Avengers (Vol. 3) #32 as the inspiration.”
No spoilers, but let’s just say, “there was lightning and thunder… and then silence.”
The publication also wrote: “Keep in mind, I said they wanted to give Thor a big, proper death in an Avengers movie. That does not automatically imply that Thor is gone forever. Let’s not forget, there’s still a place waiting for Thor at the end of it all.”
