MatPat has shared details about his work and life after stepping away from YouTube earlier this year.

The longtime Game Theorists host, whose real name is Matthew Patrick, said leaving weekly uploads has opened up time for advocacy and creative projects.

“Since retiring off the channels, we’ve been working behind the scenes with Congress to basically advocate for the creator economy and creator rights,” he said in an interview with Dexerto.

Patrick explained that he and his wife, Stephanie, have been meeting with lawmakers to help them understand how the online creator space operates. The pair also held a press conference at the U.S. Capitol, which quickly fueled online jokes and fan theories about him running for president in 2028.

New projects and collaborations

MatPat also talked about his event, Creators in Fashion, which connects digital creators with the fashion world. The initiative, which recently partnered with VidSummit, focuses on helping creators build and launch brands while exploring how online influence shapes modern style and business.

Outside of work, the YouTuber said he’s been catching up on gaming and content he missed during his years of constant production. He recently finished playing Split Fiction with his son and started Hollow Knight: Silksong. He also mentioned watching film commentary videos from Patrick H. Willems and other creators.

Patrick reflected on how YouTube continues to evolve, describing it as a platform split between polished studio-style production and personal, homegrown videos. “You’re seeing audiences shift away from the MrBeastification of YouTube,” he said. “People want content that feels real again.”
