Maya scolded Lacy during one of his live streams for buying two leopard geckos and giving them away just weeks later, urging him and his viewers to be responsible pet owners.
Maya Higa might be known for her popular Twitch streams, but her true passion lies in animal conservation. Her rehabilitation facility, Alveus Animal Sanctuary, is constantly growing, housing critters like Emus, chinchillas, and even wolves to help educate the masses about animals and give their ambassadors permanent homes.
As such, Maya isn’t shy about calling out her fellow streamers when it comes to animal welfare, and that’s exactly what she did during one of Lacy’s Twitch broadcasts after she learned about his latest pets.
Maya calls out Lacy for giving away pet Leopard Geckos
Lacy and Marlon, another popular Twitch streamer, purchased two Leopard Geckos in January 2026. These geckos are extremely popular as pets and are even considered one of the first “domesticated” lizard species, since they are extremely docile and relatively easy to tame.
The two even called Maya during a joint livestream to ask for advice about raising them, where she urged them to give the lizards an “excellent quality of life” for their duration of their lifespans.
However, the streamers were left stunned after learning that Leopard Geckos can live for up to 20 years, something they weren’t aware of until they’d already bought them.
Despite his assurances to Maya in their previous conversation, Lacy ended up rehoming the lizards a few weeks later during another live stream, gifting them to the assistant of fellow streamer Silky in early February.
“I feel like they’re better off here [with you],” Lacy said. “If you want, you can have them, and you can be the dad who stepped up.”
He got an earful from Maya for doing this in a February 22 Twitch stream, who berated him for giving away the animals so soon despite assuring her that he would raise them for their entire lives.
“Look into the camera and tell them [the audience], ‘I will never get a pet again without doing proper research, and you shouldn’t either,'” she told him.
A chastened Lacy did as he was told, urging his viewers to “make sure to be responsible pet owners.”
The clip of their conversation has gone viral on social media, with many users congratulating Maya for calling him out and spreading awareness that owning pets is a serious commitment.
