Maya Higa’s Alveus Sanctuary has reached its $1 million donation goal to fund the creation of the Alveus Research & Recovery Institute, a new project focused on wildlife conservation and species recovery.

The fundraiser, known as the Pixel Project, invited viewers to donate $100 to unlock one pixel of a digital mural shown during Maya’s Twitch stream. Each pixel revealed part of a larger image, and after three days of contributions, all 10,000 pixels were unlocked, completing the mural and reaching the $1 million target.

Alveus confirmed the achievement on X, writing, “Every pixel of the Pixel Project has been unlocked. We just raised $1,000,000 for our research & recovery institute in 3 days. Speechless.”

The funds will go toward developing the Alveus Research & Recovery Institute, which will focus on conservation breeding programs for critically endangered Red wolves and Mexican Gray wolves.

“We’re taking the Alveus approach to the wild, and with your help, we successfully raised $1,000,000 to fund the initial development of the Alveus Research & Recovery Institute,” the organisation said.

“All 10,000 pixels on our mural have been unlocked by generous donors like you, each displaying the name of a vital original supporter of the Institute. While all pixels have been claimed, donations are still greatly needed to support the ongoing development and operations of the institute.”

Alveus states that only 18 Red wolves and 286 Mexican Gray wolves currently remain in the wild. The institute’s goal is to help maintain a population under human care with the long-term aim of reintroducing these species into their natural habitats.
