The McRib is back. McDonald’s has officially confirmed that its cult-favorite sandwich will return to menus on November 11 for a limited run, and the comeback has sparked fresh excitement across both fast-food fans and the crypto community.

The boneless pork sandwich has a strange, meme-worthy history. First launched in 1981, it was pulled just four years later because of low sales. That initial disappearance ended up creating the hype machine we know today. Every time the McRib pops back up, customers flood stores to get their fix of saucy pork, diced onions, and pickles on a toasted homestyle bun.

On November 10, McDonald’s Senior Marketing Director Guillaume Huin officially announced its return, calling the McRib the company’s “most-mentioned limited-time product online,” outperforming even staple menu items when it comes to chatter on X.

But the comeback may have another twist. According to Huin, the McRib has picked up unexpected significance in the world of crypto trading.

The McRib is welcomed back by crypto traders

“Funnily enough and entirely independent of McDonald’s involvement, the McRib has recently found new meaning on internet within the trading and crypto community,” he said.

“Some claim Bitcoin and S&P 500 tend to perform well after the McRib makes a comeback, particularly in 2017, 2020, 2021. Coincidentally, when the McRib returned to stores in December 2024, Bitcoin hit a new all-time high.”

There’s no proven link between a seasonal pork sandwich and the world’s biggest cryptocurrency, but the pattern is enough to fuel fresh speculation. With Bitcoin investors looking for any hint of momentum, the McRib’s return is already being watched like a chart indicator.
