Mephisto, the king of Hell, was just introduced in Ironheart. According to a new report, the MCU is planning to adapt one of his best stories, and it’ll be a big part of the Supernatural Saga.
In the final episode of Ironheart, it’s revealed that Mephisto appeared to Parker and gave him his magical hood, promising him “filthy, greasy” levels of fortune. He also spoke to Riri in a pivotal scene near the end, briefly revealing his terrifying true form.
Marvel is guilty of not following through on stuff like this; for example, Mahershala Ali had a voice cameo as Blade in Eternals, but his movie has been stuck in development hell ever since.
However, if all goes to plan, we will see Mephisto again – and it’ll be part of a clash with the Midnight Sons.
Marvel rumored to adapt Damnation story with Mephisto & Midnight Sons
First published in February 2018, the Damnation storyline sees Mephisto take over Las Vegas as a realm of Hell after it’s nearly destroyed by Hydra. Doctor Strange plays a game with him to reclaim the city’s souls (no other spoilers, don’t worry).
According to The Cosmic Circus, Marvel is planning to adapt this story. This follows reports that the MCU will introduce the Midnight Sons: Blade, Ghost Rider, Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing, Moon Knight, and Doctor Voodoo.
“While there will not be a 1:1 direct adaptation of the story in the MCU, it will be heavily influenced by those events. Mephisto will seek to conquer the Earth and establish dominion over Hell itself,” the outlet wrote. It’s unclear if it’d be a movie or a TV show.
The Blade movie is expected to reveal more information about Mephisto, with its rumored villain, Lilith, positioned as a possible rival for Mephisto.
“The whole purpose is to eventually explore a story set within the supernatural setting of the MCU, with the Damnation storyline culminating in what will be a Midnight Sons movie,” the report added.
Another thing: whenever Ghost Rider is introduced, The Cosmic Circus has reported that it’ll be the Johnny Blaze version of the character, earlier played by Nicolas Cage. The franchise may also introduce Mephisto’s son, Blackheart, and Chthon, the author of the Darkhold.
This all said, don’t expect to see it soon. The Multiverse Saga will conclude with Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, which will tee up the Mutant Saga and the X-Men.
