According to a new report, the long-rumoured Midnight Sons movie is back on the table at Marvel Studios. It’s not just good news for fans of horror-themed superheroes – it might also be the lifeline one long-delayed MCU project desperately needs.

Midnight Sons is Marvel’s leading supernatural squad – think Avengers but spooky. Originally introduced in the ‘90s, the team brought together some of Marvel’s darkest characters to fight off mystical threats, including Ghost Rider, Morbius, Doctor Strange, and Blade.

Over the years, whispers of the Midnight Sons making their way into the MCU have come and gone. When Moon Knight premiered in 2022, Oscar Isaac dropped the name in interviews. Then came the excellent Werewolf by Night special, and suddenly, a horror corner of the MCU started to take shape.

But then silence… until now. Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman (aka DanielRPK) has suggested that a Midnight Sons movie is in development at the MCU, with Ghost Rider rumored to lead the team. But there’s another member we’re interested in: Blade

Midnight Sons could save Marvel’s doomed Blade movie

Midnight Sons could be a way to finally rescue Blade, the MCU’s reboot that’s been stuck in development hell for years. To say the project has had a rough time would be an understatement sharper than the Daywalker’s sword.

First announced back in 2019 with Mahershala Ali in the lead role, the film was supposed to be a major pillar of Marvel’s Phase 5. Fast forward to 2025, and all we’ve got is a string of delayed production schedules, director changes, and controversial rewrites, with some fearing it will be dropped altogether.

But that’s where Midnight Sons could be a game-changer.

Rather than trying to crack a standalone Blade movie in an increasingly convoluted MCU, Marvel could relaunch the character as part of an ensemble. A horror-themed team-up could give Ali the spotlight without the pressure of carrying an entire film solo – especially with characters like Ghost Rider to share the bloody burden.

It’s not just about saving face, either. It’s about saving the reboot from purgatory and finally making good on the promise Marvel made nearly six years ago.

One fan summed it up perfectly while responding to the Midnight Sons news, “Honestly, if they keep dragging feet on a Blade movie, you could introduce him here and add Black Knight so that the after credits scene makes sense.”

That post-credits scene, of course, refers to Eternals, where Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman is greeted by a mysterious voice – later confirmed to be Ali’s Blade. It was a tantalizing tease, but so far, it’s led nowhere.

The messy production even got a little meta joke in the form of Wesley Snipes’ cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, where he played a version of Blade stuck in The Void.

“There’s only been one Blade. There’s only ever gonna be one Blade,” he says. Although some assumed this meant the death of the Marvel movie, the joke seems to simply poke fun at the reboot’s issues.

Midnight Sons could finally pick up these narrative threads, tying together the MCU’s darker corners and giving fans the monster mash-up they’ve been craving. In short: Marvel needs Midnight Sons. Horror fans need Midnight Sons. And Blade? He needs it most of all.
