Nintendo fans are dreaming of a Metroid Prime 4: Beyond shadowdrop, after an advertisement was spotted that claimed the long-awaited sequel is “out now.”

It’s no secret that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has had a troubled development. After first being announced all the way back at E3 2017 with Bandai Namco in charge, the project was scrapped and restarted by Retro Studios, the team behind the other 3D Games in the series.

This was followed by years of rumors and occasional updates, until it was confirmed that it would finally arrive in 2025, and that a Switch 2 version was also coming.

Although we still don’t have a final release date, a billboard spotted by fans has them convinced that a big announcement is due at any moment.

Metroid Prime 4 fans think big news is coming soon

The sign in question was spotted at Oxford Circus Station in London and posted to Reddit from multiple angles, before VGC’s Andy Robinson also shared an image, proving that it’s real.

The large poster clearly shows the Switch 2 Edition of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, with the words “out now” clearly plastered on the right-hand side. However, there is still no sign on the Nintendo store.

As many fans speculated, this is likely just a mistake that was supposed to be covered up with another sticker. But many felt that this could mean that big news is right around the corner, with some even hoping for a shadowdrop.

“So that would mean we’re really close to release?” said one player.

“Perhaps this ad was put up this evening and its shadow dropping tomorrow? Would be kind of insane,” added another.

It’s worth keeping in mind that another huge Nintendo game, Donkey Kong Bananza, is releasing on July 17, so it would definitely be bold to drop two such high-profile first-party titles so close together. But even if this is just a mistake and a Metroid Prime 4 shadowdrop isn’t on the cards, it’s a good sign that it’s on track to hit its 2025 window.
