The Final Reckoning opened in theaters back in May alongside the live-action Lilo & Stitch, the combo of which set a new box office record for Memorial Day weekend. Since then, the movie has grossed nearly $200 million in the States, contributing to a haul of almost $600 million globally. The move to digital comes around three months later, a notably long theatrical release window in 2025, and one I can imagine Cruise himself advocated for.

Naturally, the film’s production was one for the books. Tom Cruise has no fear, and in the process of filming, did so many burning parachute jump stunts he was awarded a Guinness World Record. The man will be pushing the limits of film-making until the end (if he’s even mortal), an ethos that has inspired the likes of Hideo Kojima.

Is this the last Mission: Impossible movie?

The Final Reckoning has long been established, at least in marketing, as the final movie in the franchise. We have no word to the contrary, with no news on a ninth movie or any potential spin-offs. Nothing’s impossible though, right?
