Veteran Japanese voice actor Masaru Ikeda, known for his roles in Mobile Suit Gundam, Death Note, One Piece, and Monster, has died at the age of 83.

His agency confirmed that the prolific anime and dubbing actor passed away on January 31 due to heart failure, sharing a message thanking fans and colleagues for their support throughout his career.

According to a report from Oricon News, Ikeda’s agency announced his passing in an official statement. “We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the kindness shown to him during his lifetime and to inform you of this with great respect.”

Ikeda built a career spanning more than five decades, becoming widely known for voicing General Revil in Mobile Suit Gundam and its Universal Century entries. His portrayal of the senior Earth Federation commander made him a familiar voice to generations of Gundam fans.

He also voiced Ikki Yoneda in Sakura Wars, Koreyoshi Kitamura in Death Note, and appeared in One Piece as Nekomamushi. Ikeda was further credited in Monster as hospital director Dr. Heinemann.

Outside of anime, Ikeda was also a prolific dubbing actor, lending his voice to Japanese versions of major Hollywood films and television shows, which helped cement his status as one of the industry’s most recognizable veteran performers.
