The ending of Beast Games Season 2 Episode 9 has reignited backlash to the show’s use of cliffhangers, so much so that MrBeast has addressed the issue and made a promise ahead of the anticipated finale.
Season 2 Episode 9 of the Prime Video competition series sees the remaining 10 players using bribery and the power of persuasion to try and secure their spot in the final six. The first five are decided, but before we find out the sixth, the episode ends.
Most of Beast Games Season 2’s episodes have ended with a cliffhanger, and while this in itself has irritated viewers, the latest one has been described as the most unnecessary. After all, Episode 10 is the finale, meaning fans will already be tuning in to find out who wins the $5 million prize.
Jimmy Donaldson, aka MrBeast, already addressed the issue earlier this month in a Reddit AMA, but he’s since responded to the latest wave of criticism following Episode 9’s abrupt ending.
MrBeast responds to Beast Games Season 2 cliffhanger complaint
MrBeast replied to a complaint about cliffhangers being used in the final stretch of the series, saying that it’s something he and the production team are going to avoid in Beast Games Season 3.
The issue was raised by Gaming YouTuber AdamAsta, who wrote on X, “Beast Games is awesome and I’m really enjoying it and all! But one small suggestion for future seasons: it’d be great if the cliffhangers weren’t placed in the last quarter of the season.
“By that point, we’re already fully invested and definitely coming back for the next episode anyway, so it kind of takes away from the overall experience.”
MrBeast replied, “I’M SORRY LESS CLIFFHANGERS IN SEASON 3 I SWEAR,” alongside a crying face emoji.
As said, this isn’t the first time he’s responded to the complaint. In his Beast Games Reddit AMA, one fan wrote, “Any news about potentially reducing the number of cliffhangers? I can understand the first couple episodes but after the viewer is invested we get annoyed.
“I don’t know how the numbers behind the scenes look but it incentivizes me to wait for multiple episodes then binge watch.”
The YouTuber replied, “Less cliffhangers next season!” Season 3 is definitely going ahead at Prime Video, so you can expect this problem to be rectified by the time it drops.
But it’s not the only format change, as casting is currently underway, and MrBeast is taking a global approach by seeking competitors who “embody the spirit of their country”.
This was something he teased in the AMA, when someone asked, “Hi Jimmy, is there an international edition you guys are thinking of in Season 3? Would be great to have diversity from all over the globe,” to which he replied, “Do I have news for you ;)”.
