Call of Duty players think that the era of CoD HQ could finally be coming to an end, after it was confirmed that MW3 and MW2 were both being removed from the app.

Ever since it launched in 2022, each new Call of Duty has launched on the CoD HQ app. This kept every game in a single place, so it could seamlessly integrate with Warzone, sharing weapons, Operators, and more.

However, as more games have been released, the app has become bigger and more bloated, causing the devs to take action and try to reduce the storage it requires. This usually means removing older games that were no longer relevant, such as Vanguard and MW 2019.

Now, though, the devs have confirmed that both Modern Warfare 3 and Modern Warfare 2 will no longer be part of CoD HQ, which players think could be the beginning of the end for the app.

Modern Warfare 2 & 3 are leaving CoD HQ

“On July 29 at 9am PT, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be moved from the main Call of Duty install and become standalone downloads,” they said in an X post

“Beginning tomorrow, MWII or MWIII owners can access them directly after redownloading each title,” they continued. “Legacy content related to MWII and MWIII modes within the main Call of Duty install will be automatically removed on August 7 to free up storage space.”

Players were overjoyed by the news, not only because it makes Call of Duty easier to install, but also because it could signal a move towards making games standalone in the future.

“The beginning of the heat death of COD HQ,” joked news account ModernWarzone

“Rare Activision W. I hope this is the beginning of the end of COD HQ,” added another player.

It’s worth keeping in mind that this move doesn’t necessarily mean that CoD HQ is a thing of the past. As far as we know, Black Ops 7 will still be integrating with Warzone and will be released within the app.

However, the fact that games are now being removed so soon after they were released could be a good sign that the infamously huge launcher will become a little easier to manage going forward.
