Fallout fans are hoping that Bethesda is planning a Fallout 3 remaster shadowdrop, after a mysterious countdown appeared on the Amazon Studios website.
The second season of the Fallout series is currently airing on Prime, which has created plenty of buzz around the popular post-apocalyptic RPG series. But with Fallout 5 seemingly years away, players are clamoring for a remaster of one of the older games.
Although Season 2 focuses heavily on Obsidian’s New Vegas, a Fallout 3 remaster has been rumored for some time. Now, many fans have convinced themselves that an announcement is imminent.
Fallout 3 fans think a remaster shadowdrop is imminent
A Fallout-inspired countdown has appeared on the Amazon Studios website, as part of an interactive webpage with links to the store, archives, and even explorable 3D recreations of areas from the show.
But one part of the website is locked behind a timer that is set to end on February 4, the same day that the Season 2 finale airs. It’s not clear what will happen once this date rolls around, but the more optimistic fans are hoping that it’s all leading to a Fallout 3 remaster.
“Smart money’s on a Fallout 3 remaster,” said one player on Reddit.
“Back when Fallout 4 released, there were a ton of reports/rumours that a Fallout 3 remaster with ‘updated graphics and looting/inventory mechanics’ was already in the works and then I feel like I never heard anything about that since,” added another.
It’s also worth pointing out that there’s an Xbox Developer Direct planned for sometime in January, where Bethesda are likely to make an appearance. This has also fueled speculation that we could be returning to the Capital Wasteland.
“I’m keeping my expectations low now, but the Xbox Developer Direct is just a few days away, and a Fallout 3 remaster seems almost plausible,” wrote another fan.
If we keep our glass half empty, this countdown is most likely building to something related to the Fallout TV show, such as behind-the-scenes footage or perhaps even a teaser for Season 3. If Bethesda were gearing up to announce a Fallout 3 remaster, then you’d expect them to tease it in a much flashier way.
However, the studio does have previous for this sort of thing. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was shadowdropped without any notice, and Todd Howard has expressed a desire to release more games in this way.
Either way, we’ll have to wait until February 4 to see if Bethesda drops the bomb on us.
