Naughty Dog has reportedly placed staff on mandatory overtime as it works to get Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet back on schedule.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, developers at Sony’s flagship studio were asked to work overtime for the past seven weeks while preparing a demo for the upcoming sci-fi title Intergalactic.
The push was reportedly ordered after the project missed several internal deadlines, with the extra hours described as an attempt to bring production back on track.
Sources cited by Bloomberg say the overtime period was tied specifically to delivering a demo for Sony, rather than the game’s full development timeline. Intergalactic is currently expected to release in mid 2027, meaning the demo push comes relatively early in the project’s lifecycle.
Intergalactic devs reportedly have to work overtime
The report states that staff were instructed to log additional hours each week for seven weeks to stabilize development following delays. Alongside the overtime period, staff were reportedly informed that the studio will revert to its standard three-day-per-week office schedule through the end of January.
Neither Naughty Dog nor Sony has commented publicly regarding the overtime, and both companies declined to comment when contacted by Bloomberg.
Intergalactic is Naughty Dog’s first new original IP since The Last of Us, marking a major shift for the studio after years spent working on sequels and remakes. The project was first revealed at The Game Awards and is positioned as a major PlayStation exclusive for the latter half of the console generation.
