A brand new Friday the 13th game is officially in development after being announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2025, where Horror Inc. confirmed it’s working on both a sequel film and a new video game.

This news could reignite the franchise after years of legal complications left the series stalled. The last Friday the 13th game, released in 2017 by IllFonic, was pulled from sale in 2023 and officially shut down in 2024. Licensing disputes forced developers to cancel planned updates and abandon long-term support. Despite strong fan interest, the game couldn’t recover.

The movie side of the franchise has been quiet, too. The most recent film, a 2009 reboot, failed to spark a new series, and there hasn’t been a theatrical follow-up since. However, that could be all about to change thanks to Barsamian’s announcement.

“I can tell you that a new sequel movie and a new sequel game are at the top of our list,” said Robbie Barsamian, Vice President of Horror Inc., during the SDCC panel.

“It’s where most of our energy is going right now, and I can tell you we’re finally in a position to deliver on that,” he added. However, he also went on to explain that, “while we’re not officially announcing with our partners today, both are coming. They’re both in the works.”

As such, no developers or a release window have been confirmed just yet. It’s also not clear if the new game will follow on from the Friday the 13th: The Game or start fresh. Though the use of “sequel game” could suggest it’ll follow on from the 2017 release, nothing has been fully confirmed yet.

Nevertheless, Friday the 13th is officially coming back to both screens and consoles.
