A new series of Harry Potter audiobooks are nearing completion, and one inspired piece of casting could work for the TV show as well.

It’s a big year for the Harry Potter brand. Principal photography is currently under way on a new Harry Potter TV series, in which each book will get a season corresponding with each school year.

John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Hagrid), and Paapa Essiedu (Snape) star, while Dominic McLaughlin is Harry Potter, Alastair Stout plays Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton has been cast as Hermione Grainger.

As well as that, Audible has been working on new audio recordings of the novels, featuring some big names as the beloved characters.

Matthew Macfadyen is Voldemort in Harry Potter audiobooks

While the main players have been cast in the Harry Potter TV series, as far as we know, the show has yet to cast its Lord Voldemort.

But according to Variety, the audio series has found he-who-must-not-be-named in the shape of Matthew Macfadyen.

The English actor found fame as Mr. Darcy in the 2005 Pride & Prejudice, while he recently played Mr. Paradox in Deadpool & Wolverine.

But Macfadyen is probably best-known for Succession, and anyone who has seen that Machiavellian turn as Tom Wambsgans in the HBO show knows he has the chops to play Potter’s Dark Lord.

And if he’s doing it in audio form, why not give Macfadyen the TV gig too, as the show already has form on that front, thanks to Arbella Stanton playing both Hermiones…
